Reflect, Release, Renew: Embracing the New Year

embracing the new year

As the New Year approaches, I think back to one of my favorite Christmas moments—the quiet morning after. Sitting by the tree, I have often reflected on God’s goodness throughout the year: His protection, guidance, and unexpected kindness. How faithful He has been! I find it helpful to pause and reflect on the past, release the negative things, and renew my heart at the start of the new year.

Let’s Reflect

Take time to remember His goodness.

-When did you experience His grace or protection?

-When did He surprise you with favor?

Scrolling through my feed that morning, I saw faces of people who now know Jesus—people celebrating Christmas because someone shared the gospel. Disciples making disciples. His kingdom is growing, and we get to be part of it!

-Who celebrated Christmas this year because of your witness and investment in them?

-Who is passing on Christ’s message because you lived it out before them?

Let’s Release

Reflection can also surface pain—unanswered prayers, disappointments, offenses. Heading into the New Year, release these things to God. Forgive. Let go.

-What offense or disappointment do you need to surrender and give to God?

One way I release pain is by finding “takeaways.” Lessons from difficult moments can become stepping stones instead of burdens. It’s our choice—drag that weight or turn it into growth in maturity.

Embracing the New Year

Let’s Renew

The New Year is a perfect time to renew our God-inspired goals. I’m not big on resolutions, but I believe in listening for His direction. Pause and ask:

-What is God inviting you to do this year?

-What promise is He speaking to you about once again?

God has incredible plans for you—miracles, Kingdom expansion, and deeper intimacy with Him. He’s looking for those who will dream with Him and take hold of His promises. This year can be one of growth and greater fruit in the Kingdom. You can embrace the new year with confidence.

At the start of this year, take time to: reflect, release, and renew. 2026 is going to be amazing!
