- We need to distinguish between God’s calling and a particular plan or strategy we have made.
- Discernment helps us understand what the difference is between a goal and a plan
- Just because we see that something needs to be done, doesn’t mean it is our responsibility to do it.
- Big vision or End vision helps us to evaluate our plans and actions. It serves as a filter for what we invest time in.
- Is what I am doing today, going to move me closer to that big goal? If not maybe I shouldn’t be doing it.
- We need to be willing to ask the hard questions.
- Be strategy driven not resource driven in our decisions and goals.
- Fear is not from God. Don’t let fear keep you from setting goals with Him for the new year.
- Not meeting our goals in a particular time frame helps us to ask the why questions of ourselves. Did we obey Jesus’ instructions? Did we move on when we needed to?
- Goals keep us focused and on track
- Goal setting is not just a Western construct, but many fruitful movement leaders in Africa and Asia see it as vital. It just looks differently, and is more communal in nature.
- If its only me and God making a commitment I’m less likely to do it. If its serious then I need to share it with others.
- Final words: The best is yet to be. The God of the Harvest is going to use each one of us in greater ways in the new year! Amen!
