Key Points From This Episode:

  • We can create a bubble of only Christians that we live in, without even realizing we have done this.
  • It is a stark reality that the vast majority of lost people in our communities will not choose to walk into the doors of our church.  We have to find ways to go to them.
  • A question was asked of Sara and her husband, “Since when do we care more about the people out there than the people in here?” When that happened she realized how extremely inward focused some in their church were and they determined to bring about a change in culture.
  • They promoted a culture that says, “We care too much about these people to not give them the good news that has the power to help them so greatly.”
  • Being intentional yourself as a church leader in knowing lost people and engaging in friendships with them is key.
  • They began to train their congregation in simple skills and empowered them to do the work of the ministry, even allowing them to baptize new believers they’d led to Christ.
  • It all begins with finding out where the people you know are at, and then beginning to pray regularly for them and for opportunities to share with them.
  • As introverts especially, its easy to be satisfied with the relationships we have rather than building relationships intentionally with lost people.
  • Accountability is key to growing as a disciple-maker.
  • When you are discipling people, ask them who they are discipling?  You hold them accountable and they hold others accountable, so you multiply accountability as part of the DNA.
